Contract Ratified between BOLR and SEIU 32BJ
(Philadelphia, PA)— An agreement has been ratified between the Building Operators Labor Relations (BOLR) of Philadelphia and Local 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), averting a strike that was due to begin at 12:01 a.m. 10-19-11.
The negotiating committee, led by BOLR President Robert Martin, strongly advocated on its members behalf in negotiating sessions held during the last few weeks. The committee presented the economic realities facing its members, including declining operating margins and occupancy rates in Center City Philadelphia coupled with lower property values and increased real estate taxes.
“It’s a victory for BOLR members, tenants and workers,” said Mr. Martin. “We are happy that we were able to ratify a contract agreement without any work stoppage,” he added. “BOLR is aware of the economic challenges facing union members however the economic downturn affected both parties in these negotiations. This agreement balances the concerns of both parties in a fair and appropriate manner,” Mr. Martin said.
BOLR members ratified the contract on 10-21-11 and SEIU 32 BJ members ratified the contract on 10-22-11.
