SAFETY AND SECURITY COMMITTEE

Committee Purpose:

Plan and implement educational programs, seminars and workshops that provide assistance to members on issues concerning safety and security matters. Communicate with members regarding crime trends, prevention and awareness. Law enforcement liaison and support with BOMA is coordinated through this committee.


Committee Staffing:

The committee shall consist of a Chairman/woman and 12-15 committee members. The committee shall be composed of 50% regular members and 50% associate members. The Chairman shall appoint the Safety and Security Committee Chairperson.  The Safety and Security Chair with the assistance of Committee members shall appoint committee members. Lawenforcement officials will participate in committee’s work.


Committee Meetings:

The Committee shall meet as needed, but shall attempt to meet at least six (6) times per year.


Committee Responsibilities:

  • Encourages partnerships between members, law enforcement and private security professionals.
  • Invites related groups in the security field to be part of the committee (i.e., police, fire, Center City District, Licenses and Inspections).
  • Selects and plans safety and security seminars.
  • Determines subjects of interest or need in the office building industry that deal with safety and security for inclusion in monthly newsletter.
  • Develops handouts on crime prevention.
  • Communicates crime trends throughout the city and works closely with the Philadelphia Police Department and Center City District in addressing crime prevention.
  • Oversees the BOMA fax/email alerts relating to crime trends in the city.
  • Collaborative programs are discussed and implemented. Newsletters, information sharing, crime prevention, resource sharing, training, research and guidelines.
  • Works with Licensing and Inspections to communicate code changes.
  • Works with the Fire Department to communicate various new codes.
  • Develops annual budget to be included in the association’s budget and approved by the Board.
  • Submit committee report for Board meetings.
