Philadelphia Suburban Housekeeping Contract

(Philadelphia, PA) – Late Friday afternoon (1/6/12) BOLR reached a tentative agreement with SEIU Local 32 BJ District 36 for a four year extension of the Collective Bargaining Agreement covering the housekeeping workers in the Philadelphia Suburbs.

The new agreement covers a four (4) year term covering the period 12/16/2011 through 12/16/2015. The agreement provides increases in the minimum wage rates as follows:

7/1/12 – $0.34 per hour
7/1/13 – $0.40 per hour
7/1/14 – $0.40 per hour
7/1/15 – $0.40 per hour

The current minimum wage rate is $10.80 per hour. In addition the agreement calls of the elimination of the training fund resulting in $160.00 annual savings for employers. The training fund contributions will cease immediately. In addition, the Legal Fund contribution rates will be reduced in the second year of the contract with the fund being moved to Philadelphia and merged with the Philadelphia Legal Fund.

The percentage increases for the life of the contract are as noted below.

Full-time workers – 16.25% (4.07% AVG)*
Part-time workers – 9.47% (2.37 AVG)

*Full-time workers are entitled to health benefits and the increase in their costs account for the larger increase percentage wise for full-time workers.

The contract needs to be ratified by the Union workers and the BOLR Suburban Section Board. Said ratification is scheduled for later this week.
