World Drowning Prevention Day raises awareness about the critical importance of water safety and the urgent need to promote drowning prevention efforts – while also honoring the lives lost to drowning and the families and communities devastated by these tragedies. Every year, an estimated 236,000 people worldwide are lost to drowning, including about 4,500 people in the United States.
